    3 newb questions

First of all id like to say thank you to everyone for b n so helpful on this forum. Just got my first bow 2012 deatroyer 350. The seller said it was set to 70lb draw took it to work and some one who i think has little experience in bows said it wqs about 65lbs said he could tell by the gaps in the limbs to the main bow body how can you really tell owners manuel didint make sense to me.2nd question some times when i shoot and release the.... Lol i guess release thing e it opens but the string stays stuck on the left or right side of the clamp is it poor form or just a cheap release? Also does any one have any used carpet or close i can make a target out of in the temple area? Lol i know im cheap. Thank you for the help

A compound bow is at its maximum draw weight when the screws are all the way in. The more you unscrew it the lighter the draw weight. You can have it checked at a bow shop, they have a scale to check it. As far as the release thing, it sounds to me like cheap release. Cant help with the carpet.

Welcome to the site. If I were you I would head to closest bow shop and make sure your equipment is safe. Sounds like release may need to be replaced. At a good bow shop the people will be eager to help a beginner. As far as what poundage your bow is set at, make sure it is comfortable to you. Setting poundage high is not always the best option. Good luck and again welcome.

first...stop talking to the guy that can tell poundage by the "gaps in the limbs"...
second.. take it to a range/bow shop.. have it setup for you... meaning set up TO you...
        third.. get a new release.
        fourth.. welcome

Addendum: dont unscrew the limb bolts unless you know what you are doing, they can only come out so far untill it becomes a safety issue. Each turn usually drops the draw weight by 2-3lbs. Standard draw weights are usually the max weight ( in your case apparently 70lb ) minus 10lbs. In other words yours is probably 60-70lbs.

I would suggest Nocked and Loaded in lampasas for a good bow shop. Aaron and Sam will take care of you.

In the Temple area huh? Hit me up some time and we'll go shoot. To answer your questions, the guy saying it's set at 65 because of some gaps didn't know what he's talking about. It could be that he's right, and it is 65, but that would be a lucky guess on his part. You need a draw scale to really know the draw weight. It sounds like you need a new release, i can't figure out how it could hang up like you described. I would recommend a reputable bow shop. Nocked and Loaded in Lampassas is great, but The Outhouse in Waco is a bit closer and does good work as well.
