    Holding it together

So, I'm sitting in DFW airport waiting on a flight to Columbus, OH for a meeting. I found out last week that my job has been eliminated and I'll be unemployed in a couple of weeks. I didn't get much sleep last night thinking of how I'm going to keep from telling someone off in the next couple of days. The severance package offered is one motivator.

Any suggestions on how I keep it together the next couple of days? Heavy drinking at night seems to be high on the list right now.

start the resume' working and hitting all the possible job markets...rather than drinking...go to the meeting like nothing is wrong...better to look while you have one, than wait....good luck! and kick but-a at the meeting

Sorry to hear, but at least you know. Better than being let go without notice. I would Start networking and getting your resume out ASAP. Good luck!

All I can say is, dont burn any bridges. Dont know what line of work your in but we offten think that its a big world out there but its much smaller. You name and reputation gets around more than you think. I know I have come to meet people that swear we have physically meet before and after some conversation we come to find out that we have work assoiciates in common. Hang in there my friend.

Yeah, I have already done that. It's also sad because I have worked with some of these people for the last ten years.

I'm not worried about losing it with my boss. I know she fought this. We were friends and co-workers long before she was my supervisor. Fortunately, she and I will be spending most of our time together figuring out how/who to transition the work to. She will be the only one left in our group after this. We had five two years ago.

Good luck, your next job might be even better so maybe it is a blessing in disguise. What kind of work do you do?

Sorry to hear that, I've been there. You should ask your manager, and your manager's boss for letters of recommendation, their positive references should help you during the interview process.
The economy in North Texas is strong, hopefully you will find a better opportunity than you have now. It's important not to hang your head, most people in corporate America have experienced downsizing, the companies you interview with will empathize with your situation.
                    Go kick some ***, brother!

I don't know if you know the Lord Jesus, but if you do, lean on Him. I'd be in prayer continuously for peace and wisdom....

If not, then I'd get to know Him... He's your best bet in ANY situation.

This could be a blessing in disguise. And what Slick says.

Lord doesn't close any windows without opening a door. May not see it now, but let Him drive the bus. You're a passenger. Trust and have confidence His hand will be applied at some point and direct the way.

You may have prayed this doesn't occur and think your prayers were unanswered. God answers all prayers. It's just that sometimes the answer is "no". He has a plan for you.

I was in a very similar position... I ended up working my rear off to support the transition (while looking elsewhere). They hired me as a contractor (for more money) to support the longer than planned transition. After 6 months they hired me back on at an even larger salary. I'm not saying that this will happen to you, but you might be surprised what can happen when you become known as the go to guy. Keep positive work hard and network, someone you know, knows about your next job.
