    First time dove hunting

Ok guys I'm going dove hunting tomorrow for the evening hunt. I've never been, so what should I expect. I'm barrowing my brother in laws shotgun. Anyone have any experience with these over under shotguns and this model? Click image for larger version

Should be good with set up but might want to purchase a mojo dove worth it's weight in gold!

I am not a fan of the those target loads, not enough umph in my opinion. Went through a whole box and only killed a handful of birds and watched a bunch fly off after getting nailed and a huge puff of feathers. Gave up and swapped to some some actual hunting loads and finished my limit with no birds surviving a hit.

I shoot AA's but have shot all types of loads at one time. All kill birds. Hope you got more than one box for you first time out.

I shot those Rios all season in 6 and 7.5 they will do the job just fine! Dove hunting is a blast get a nice lawn chair and quite a few boxes of shells. When the hunting slows I always start shooting dirt clods, thats the beauty of dove hunting!! Its addicting and those little buggers are delicious

Last time I went dove hunting I got humbled. Well it was windy that day. I just didn't shoot very well. Just be sure to have plenty of shells.

Getcha a couple of Mojo's,or buddy up with someone that already has a few! I've used the Rio brand several times, and they worked, but we were over a water hole,in September.Birds are a whole lot bigger this time of year, and a little harder to kill.Good luck!

I love the Rios, but I'd find some heavy doves.....they'll be 1 1/8oz. Put you a IC choke in the top barrel and Mod in the bottom.

If they're mostly comin, shoot the bottom 1st, if mostly passin or goin shoot the top 1st. But don't worry a hell of a lot about that, only if you have time.

I always told the newbs to swing the barrel from behind the bird when passing. Swing from behind him until you've covered him all the way with the end of the barrel, and shoot, but don't stop your swing. If they aren't falling then do the same till he's covered and count to 1/2 then shoot. Don't stop your swing when you shoot. You'll find a rythym. Comin right at you just raise the barrel from below until you can't see him and shoot. Goin away do the same till the bead sight is on his gas tank and let him have it.

There isn't much better than a good dove shoot.

RIos are just fine for killing dove and that Yildiz will do the job also. I would set it for the bottom barrel to fire first on doubles, it will help you to recover faster for a second shot. Depending on your experience with a shotty, make sure you follow through during the shot and don't stop the gun swing as you fire. They are flying Fast and most people will shoot behind them. For chokes, IMP or MOD would be best, just depends on how they are flying. I have killed more dove with a cylinder bore than any other choke, fwiw.
                  Have Fun!

Looks like you got a decent set up. Personally I would not get the mojo this late in the season they don't like messing with them much at all.

1⅛ oz seem to pattern much better. With 1 oz a lot of wounded birds. The standard 3 DR EQ, 1⅛ oz are great. Going heavy with the 1ΒΌ oz seems to just be expensive and not that much better. Don't move until they are on top of you, they will flare off.

There's a LimbSaver butt pad you can put on that shotgun that'll soften it up a little...I shoot the 20ga and it's plenty...good luck and have fun...once you start figuring out how to knock 'em outta the sky, it gets real fun...
