    Question on definition of "spike"

My buddy shot a deer thinking it was a spike in the doe and spike only late season. When he got up to it, he could then see a short (3/4") broken point protruding from the spike on one side. Not much question but that that point would've been >1" had it not broken off.

    Legal or not?

No. Anything 1" or greater counts as a point. The deer is legal

No one can tell for sure how much is broken off. It measures what it measures when it's dead. If it measured 3/4" then that's less than an inch, so it's a spike - according to the book anyway.

Legal. The very reason I carry a hammer in my pack, just in case I need to make a buck legal.
