    Euro question...first one

I found a hog skull that had been sitting the pasture for a while and had bits of dried hide and muscle on it. I went to the DIY and I'm doing the water and rid-x with a fish tank heater.

My question is will the bacteria remove all the old hide and muscle or just get it lose to where I can pull it off?

I changed 75% of the water after 2 weeks and have added more water and rid-x. Most of the material was gone but there is still some of the thicker stuff left. Do I let it continue to soak until that is gone?

Just let it soak. Don't change the water; only add water if it gets low.

Do I just check it every so often to see if it's clean?

You have to chew it off....
Just stick ear plugs in your nose. It helps.

Yep. You can tie a string through one of the eye sockets so you can pull it out of the water (without touching it) and see if it's clean. I use a stiff piece of wire, kinda like a chicken hook, to fish skulls out of buckets.

My wife makes me take my soaking skulls to my mom's greenhouse.

Rid-x? Hadn't heard of using that.

              Texastaxi, do use Rid-x?

I've always just put them in plan water.

Pressure wash it. Blow the junk off. You can also use a heater for livestock water buckets. TSC sales them. They will get the water HOT. You do not have to use ridx. There are enough of naturally occurring bacteria present. Heat is they key..

I will check that out. Will a Home Depot 5gl bucket hold up ok to one of those livestock heaters?

When we do our home euro we boil the skull, after skinning hide off. Then we use a nozzle on the water hose to get all the checks off, that's what I would suggest
We then use hydrogen peroxide to bleach it, works like a dream!
