Potatoe salad in gumbo??

Who does this and is it a sin in Louisiana? I assume it is of a German influence. I see some folks do it and im not against it in any way. It just seems awkward to me.

Actually my parents and grandparents do it all the time.........all of them are/were in deep South Louisiana! Not for me or any of us in the younger group.

my wife and in-laws eat PS in their gumbo, I prefer basic rice

I do it all the time, course i put rice in also. dad was born and raised in Morgan City La and all his family is from that area.

I like potato salad with my gumbo, not in. Acquired the taste for it with family in Crowley, Louisiana.

I prefer rice as well, but if you haven't tried it with potato salad, you should. It's pretty good.

Mom and Dad born and raised in Sw La and Se Tx. Never had gumbo with out PS until I was out of the house at 18.

First I had heard of it was from a coon arse and I tried it but I prefer rice.

I like ps with gumbo and will mix it if it's on my spoon, but don't intentionally mix it.
