H braces might not be enough if you pull the wire as tight as designed. Add that dead man. In our sand, we need to run double H's with the deadman

Upping it to 4 strand and a larger gate. I dont like 5 strad because half my deer like to go through vs over the fence to get to my feeders and plots.

We are in rocky country. If I can get them 4ft in the ground they arent going anywhere. Found a guy in GT that prefabs H braces and corners. When I price the steel out it only cost me about $30-40 per brace to get them from him. Huge time saver.

How to build corners/H-Braces. Pick your wire height, and open the file. StayTuff is netwire, but their corner design is solid.

Dont go all T-Posts. You need some posts every now and then to hole the wire up. A fence thats all T-posts will eventually "push over" from pressure. They arent deep enough, and they bend easy.

The concept of 2 days of a fencing class is one of those things where I'm glad someone did it, but glad it wasn't me!!

With a lot of fencing to do (Young County) I am searching the wise GS and came across this thread. Has any new wisdom emerged?
I'm sold on 5 wire, t-posts every 12ft, the need to add line posts where it's sandy, and good H braces (although they are already in place and in good shape.)
I have tons of busted wire on an old suspension fence and with it being over-grown, the cheapest answer is to replace it.

My current uncertainty is high tensile wire vs not.....

I've kept many cattle and horses in/out using a single strand hotwire. Just buy you a solar charger. Be a hellova lot easier than building a permanent fence.

We use red brand just because we got 10 pallets of it in a trade. We sink a wooden 4 T Post then wooden post repeat. Spacing between post are 8'-10' depending. H-post every 300 yards and 16 foot gates and we run 5 wires

every 5 th post a wood or metal post
t post every 12-14 foot
Double h braces on each end
single h braces every 250 ft.
16 ft gates.
set your corners and run wire on ground to drive in straight t posts.
my personal preference is net wire instead of barb wire.

That is until the stock realizes it is a drought and without a good ground the hot is barely a tickle. I have a 2 strand hot wire fence. The bottom is a ground and tied to everything I can find to use as a ground, like the cross barb wire fence. The top is hot. So far this has worked very well. But, not as good as a barb wire.

This for sure especially the top strands. It will help prevent broken legs and dead deer.

I've built several miles of barbwire fence and I recommend T post every 10' and H post every 250'. The number of strands can depend on what you're trying to keep in or out.

This right here! 5 strand is the only option for cattle.

To save money I went with 15 ft between t post and 4 strand. Everything else to builders specs. 23 years no problems. Cattle on both sides. Just my opinion. Md

We build fence using VPosts and do 20’ to 25’ spacing depending on need. No need for H braces and they don’t bend easy like a traditional T post.

This, you never know what you might want to take through it.

Like a combine with a 30 ft header! You can always install a gate that is too narrow but you can't install a gate that is "Too big!"

I like an H Brace on both sides & two 16 ft gates facing each other.
