looking for a starter hammock I am 5' 10" 185 lbs. looking at eagle nest and Hennessey. What would be your suggestion on which to buy.

    There are SO MANY!

Go to Hammock Forums. More info than you would ever need.

I bought 4 cheap Grand Trunk hammocks on Amazon before elk season this last year. Changed the suspension on them, and passed them out. We would take a siesta after lunch every day in the timber. They worked great for that. They weigh 11.3 oz.

Depends on what you mean by starter hammock. Are you looking for something that has it all (tarp, bugnet etc); or something you can build yourself?

Hennessey makes a great all in one system. I am 5'-11" and use an explorer and an explorer delux very comfortably. Get the model with the zipper though...

ENO is a great company and you can also get everything you need, but they don't have a model, or kit, that is all in one. I recommend the Doublenest at the minimum and they even have the Reactor now that is double layer.
The ENO tarps aren't that great for weight (except for maybe the ProFly); but they are put together very well!

https://hammockforums.net/ is the best place to go for all your hammock information.

I originally bought a Hennessey back in 2002 and I have no complaints; in fact, I still have that hammock (albeit with several modifications). But, knowing what I know now and having access to so much information I would build a custom kit for me.
      Hammock:
Butt in a Sling Camper Hammock
      Tarp:
      JRB 10 x 11 Tarp
      Underquilt:
      The KAQ New River Underquilt

      And go from there...
