    Cpap question

I did not want to steal/step on the other thread.

Anyone just buy one off craigslist and not do sleep study? I need one, but I have not done sleep study. Do you have to adjust to proper oxygen level or anything? Thanks

It's really PSI that helps with Cpap machine ( air pressure keeping throat open).

You can do that, but you will be using their mask.

What makes you think you need one if you haven't had a doctor prescribe/schedule a sleep study for whatever is leading you think you need one?

you'll have to do the sleep study. they will adjust the level of the machine while your sleeping. the place I go to won't adjust one that has been bought somewhere else, something about having to document what person get's what machine.

and you will have to be referred by your general doctor before they'll set up the study.

My wife has timed me.... I stop breathing for 45 to 60 seconds.

You are going about this all wrong IMO.
I want to be frank with you. In an effort to save a some money which I know may be tight you could be playing with your life. How much is that worth to you and your family?

With the severity you describe there are many aspects involved in treating your case correctly. There are many types of CPAPs and there are many aspects to them. Sometimes even with the CPAP in severe cases you need an additional oral appliance to further open the airway from obstruction.

Please go to a sleep center. I can help get you a MD referral if you want. I see you are located in Spring.

All the the above is correct about a cpap. I started out with one in 1988 on 8 psi I rested like I hadnt rested before. In 2008 it quit working but had to do a study to get a new one. You sleep for 4hrs up an hr or 2 nap awake and sleep again being watched the whole time. But I got a Bipap this time.

Had the surgery and was fortunate enough to be one of the small percentage that it worked on. Most pain Ive ever been in by far. they had to crack my pallet and cut out everything in my throat after they broke my nose and straightened it some.

Wish I could do a CPAP but my airway so so restricted that I had to have surgery first.
