I've heard of people planting Japanese Millet, but not wild rice. I think East Texas Seed in Tyler has millet. I do not know about the rice.

Do you already have a spot that the birds migrate to? Ducks are not like deer. If you plant it, they may not necessarily come. You still have to be on the X. If you are on the X, the wild rice may hold them a touch longer. But still, when talking waterfowl, you always have to be where THEY want to be.

Ya we have a large pond that holds ducks constantly. Better shooting would result on limits almost every time lol

One of the lakes back home in Michigan has wild rice in it. Very rarely does it make it to mature before the ducks mow it down. It holds tons of ducks.

Few if any places in Texas have it...got to order it online. It ain't cheap though. About $250 for 50lb. Planting rate is 50lbs/acre.

I can call back home I used to work for the biologist that planted it and ask we're to find it. I will get back to you in a day or two.

There are very specific rules for hunting over planted bait crops. I'd suggest checking up on it. I planted a bunch of millet once and I know you cannot hunt over millet until one year after planting it.

Very true. Migratory birds are very restrictive, although dove are migratory they give you more play in the rules. You are correct, the last time I checked you can not plant millet in 2014 and hunt over it in 2014 for ducks/geese but you can hunt dove in 2014. You have to wait until 2015 to hunt a 2014 planted field/pond.

They are very proud of each feather on a duck if you don't comply.
