    Another question for diesel mechanics!

My Chevy diesel has glow plugs and they work fine. If they do not work it will not start. My John Deere tractor has none and still cranks very easy even at 15 degrees. Why glow plugs on PU's and not tractors? They just wanting to sell more parts? Just curious.

My tractor has glow plugs but I have to turn them on manually.

What year is the tractor? Every piece of machinery, tractors skid loaders, etc., that I've ever had,had them.

        This.
I didn't even realize my dmax had a glow plug light until after owning it a couple years. Sure starts faster if I wait that extra 2-3 seconds. It starts ok even if I don't.
Thinking about it, I don't remember our old ford 6600 tractor having glow plugs.

It probably has a intake heater. It heats the air as it goes to the valves. Look for a wire running to the intake manifold. And also could have a small fuel line going to same switch with the wire.

My case 485 is the same way, 25 degrees, jump on it turn the key 2-3 revolutions and it fires up. No glow plugs, no intake heater. No not all diesels have glow plugs and intake grid heaters.

I think car companies just want more money down the road!

The I take heater may be the ticket...my 2007 cummins doesn't have glow plugs either, it has an intake grid heater that heats the air as it comes into the intake

On a Kubota you turn and hold the key backwards this heats the glow plugs. I bet those tractors have them. Now go find them and let us know.

All in the combustion chamber design. Can't splain it to well, but the non glow plug heads have a 'Pre cup' that the injector nozzle protrudes into. That precup generates more heat on compression.

Depending on what year your chevy is, and it doesn't start when the glow plugs aren't working, you probably have an injector that is sticking and won't fire the motor, when it is warm they don't stick as easy and there for it cranks no problem or if you plug it in it will be warm and crank.

Dad has a 60 something John Deere with no glow plugs, and it cranks and starts every time. It starts stronger cold than my truck does warm.
