I get overly excited when deer comes in while bow in hand but not overly excited without my bow.
I remembered someone mentioned on here year or so ago about that. How one develop to look at target, the spot where you want to shoot for instead of deer itself.
That's what I did...with that buck I shot last week. When I saw the racks, my heart jumped for few seconds, I looked down, pick up my bow and psych myself up to look at the shot placement. I never looked at the racks after that, it has helped tremendously for me but I shook like leaf after that so bad! Lol
Good luck! I hope you knock one down soon, brother!

Pick a hair.
Amazing how that fine focus helps with the adrenaline starting to flow. I shake like a leaf after the shot, whether a deer, hog or coon.
I learned the hard way to not even attempt a shot if I am shaking bad before the shot. I will make myself wait, deep breathe, close eyes until the shaking is under control. Then I nearly shake myself to peeing after the shot and especially when I see the deer/hog drop. I think I hold my breath until I see it drop!!!! Then I am very thankful for the harness I have on or being in a ground blind where the ground is only inches away!!!!!
I have also observed the closer "Chip shots" are ones that get missed the most by alot of people.

Thx. Im fine until i clip on my release, then my mind speeds up, my heartrate triples, and i just simply quit thinkin, lol. Admitidly(sp?) i aint the best bow shot, i dont stack arrows in there very often, but i can get it close. Im gonna really try this off season to work on mechanics more than just shooting a bunch. I think thats part of reason i change equipment so often cause im not shooting good and think changing would help me( and swappin like do hurts me way more than it helps). Im gonna try to keep the bow i have now atleast until i get a few kills with it( which the way i shoot might be a few yrs)

I believe heavily that the shooter has to trust one's bow enough for it to get the job done. That's the most important thing. Confidence as well.
Keep shooting and aim true, brother. You are going to get it done! I'm rooting for you!
FYI, I don't stack my arrows, either. Sometimes, it does stack some time it stays inside 5 inch grouping. I do have one stray arrow from time to time outside the circle. It's because I got tired at the end of shooting it for a while.
Good luck!!

I think we all get excited... That's why we do it ... If we didn't get excited I dont think we would be doing it...
Like stated above aim at a hair... Another thing that helped me a lot was shooting silhouette targets ( deer, hogs etc...) you are not aiming at a dot and you are actually aiming for vitals. I think that's why a lot of people get this " target panic " you are talking about.
Another thing that will help you tremendously is shooting 3D. You get a similar feeling when 4 guys are watching you and you can't miss
That pressure will help you calm down a little on live animals..
How many animals have you killed with your bow?

Do this for several weeks. Aim for the bullseye. 1 arrow only. Reasoning is you usually only get 1 shot and it has to count. This will also help with muscle memory. If you shoot lots of arrows, you can be teaching your muscles the wrong thing. You want the moment of truth to be 2nd nature. Anchor the same place every time (have 2 anchor points). Use some back tension (slightly) to help with "punching" it.
Also, videoing yourself with the shot can help you critique yourself and see what you may be doing the same or different.
Hope this helps.

I've done the same thing.. had a 23 yard quartering toward shot which shouldn't have been taken on a mid sized boar. In my defense it was the first shot out of a box blind. But I should have waited until he quartered away. Needless to say I rushed the shot and shot underneath his belly. For some reason all the practice went out the window when I had a pin on him... rookie mistake
