Anybody raised quail to eat before?

Just finished building my son a new coop for his show chickens. When they are gone (about 7-8wks) I will have an extra coop in need of tennants.

So I decided I will get some quail eggs and hatch them and use them to eat.

I just wondered if anybody had suggestions on what to feed them to make them better eating.

Buddy of mine feeds scratch and wild game bird feed, it's non medicated crumbles, they taste purty good

Def. wild game bird feed. MIL tried this few years ago. She could hatch but in about two weeks they would fall over dead. Had to change from scratch to game bird feed. After that they hatched like pop corn.

A guy I know that raised them said they had to stay at 98 degrees until they feathered out.

          I'll check on the feed.
My buddy in Kansas raises Chukar instead of quail. A little bigger and better eating, IMO.

Turkey or wild game starter is the best to feed them. I would get Coturnix quail and not bobwhites. They grow a lot fast an are really easy to raise. I think if you raise bobwhites you have to have a permit from tpwd. I've raised Coturnix for that last 6 years, so if you have any more questions just ask....

I've given it some thought numerous times before, but never followed thru. Please post up how it goes for you.

Pretty much the same with baby chickens. I can handle that, have heat lamps

Thanks, I just might be contacting you. I think the cortunix is what most people raise to eat
