    Fishing the Flats

Has anyone ever seen one of these? Called a flatstalker... I think I would rather have a kayak but I just saw this in Gulf Coast Connections magazine. Kinda interesting. www.flatstalker.com

I have seen those...I could see it being OK in the really skinny water (especially for fly fishing) but a real PIG in deeper, rougher water or very windy days. A yak would be MUCH better.

I like to get away from the kayak crowds, so some places that I fish I might have to paddle several miles of open water to get there...

Thats along the lines of what I was thinking. Maybe if you towed it behind a boat and used it instead of wade fishing it would work, but it doesn't look like paddling that thing is as easy as a yak.

If you want to fish standing up get a wilderness systems tarpon 140 kayak. They are long enough to stand up in if the wind is calm and you can cover some serious water. I would be hesitant to use that flats stalker thing on anything other than a stock pond.

That thing is kinda cool. I bet you can duck hunt pretty good in that thing.

I'll bet that thing would be a screamer with a 20hp outboard...

I looked at em pretty good at the last Texas Hunters Expo down here in McAllen...I think they will be back this year. PM me if you want the info. Anyway, I remember thinking they were expensive but I don't know much about that type of boat. I have been toying with getting a kayak for duck hunting so this type boat caught my eye...they sell a drab model that you could camo pretty easily. They also have a transom to mount a small motor on. In the end, I think I am still leaning toward the kayak option for versatility. FWIW they guy that makes em is a nice guy and fun to talk to...give him a shout.

WS Ride 135, WS Tarpon 140 (for those with really good balance), Heritage Redfish 14, Malibu X-factor and Extreme and to a lesser degree the Preception search 13 & 15 are great stand and cast Kayaks.

That's a cool looking boat but you really need the trolling motor to make it work and if that the case might as well get a regular boat

I think I will stay with my Kayak.

The video seemed like it rocks a little is some light waves. Hard to tell without trying it, could be tough to manage when the winds pick up on you?
