    Predator hunting ?

I'm planning on trying it out on our private land. However, our land is about 90% wooded with not many open areas. I have about 2 or 3 open areas that offer limited range at best 75 maybe 100 yd shot. Anyone hunt in similar situations and what is best on gun option (shotgun or rifle)? I've seen videos of guys taking yotes up to nearly 80 yds with buckshot. I was thinking that might work best in my situation especially if i can pull one in within 50 yds. What do you think??

We hunt something similar. I use a ar15 with a 16" barrel and an illuminated scope.

A 12 gauge with a Dead Coyote round will take care of business. Be ready without much visibility they will pop up out of nowhere!

Any special requirements for the type of barrel? I have a 12 Gauge Rem 1100 2&3/4 chamber that is about 25 yrs old. It's not ideal for steel shot.

I shoot them out of a Browning Gold Hunter. I would hate to tell you either way on your shotgun. I did pick up that shotgun used fully expecting the barrel not to last and one I do not have to worry about scratching.

We use a 22 hornet no matter what the range. You need to buy some mojos so they have something to hone in on when they come in instead of just seeing you.

Oh and a low powered light with a red lense because if a cat or yote feels the heat off a high powered light they gone

I was just thinking if they are on the move approaching or leaving the shotgun would be a good choice with the right shot. I just don't know much about the dead coyote shot and what type of shotgun barrel is recommended

Shotgun did a lot of good for us before

We use a shotgun under 40 yds all the time but have also killed dozens of critters with the AR. Several times the rifle was the best choice then several times so was the shotgun.
#4 buckshot has been our best load and has allot more pellets than Dead Coyote. We shoot 2 3/4" shells because the 3 and 3 1/3" kick too hard for fast follow up shots. To each his own but I know this works for us. Good luck

I'm a shot gun/AR-15(.223) guy. #4 buckshot in 3" with a full choke Won't mess around. I like to have that 1st shot a BBB or T shot only cause I have tons of them them the lead shot. I keep that in my lap with my AR on a bi-pod next to me. I normally hunt a lone.
