About what would it cost to have someone remove this tile and replace it? I want to replace it with a rustic/ stone looking tile. Any tile guys in the Katy area?
I did the air rock and it turned out nice. Cheap and easy also.
The problem is that I have zero carpentry/construction skills. I can't cut a board straight to save my life. I will buy the materials and gladly pay someone to do it. Heck, I would even trade my Hilltop Lakes lot for someone to come out and do it.
Look into thin veneer stone also. It's real stone that the face has been sawn off of, and goes up on the wall similar to tile, with only about 1 1/2" depth.

You really willing to trade some land for the tile work?
Dang, I forgot to get rid of that part. I sold the land. Good catch. Obviously I can't go back and edit the first post so hopefully people will read this.
It's pretty easy buddy, smash tile, remove tile, remove grout and adhesive, clean area, apply new adhesive, trowel, apply tile or backsplash, grout, and clean.
It is fairly easy if you have done it or seen it done, beginner not so much. I would say the $300 range. New construction we charge $200 for something that size.
I had the EXACT same look with the fireplace at my house. I used stacked stone and resurfaced mine. I just left the old tiles in place around the fireplace and used "liquid nails" on the back of the stone and set them in place. I did have to grind the back of each stone flat with a angle grinder but that only took about 5-10 seconds for each stone. Each stone had small "bumps" so that mortar would adhere, but since I didn't use mortar, I could do away with them. The hardest part was actually removing the tiles on the floor so I could lay the hardwood. In all, a very easy task and I have not had any issues with the stones for over 3 years now. Total cost was just over $200. Just a thought. Good luck.
Just realized that you do not have the columns up each side like mine does, so that would pose a problem for the stack stone idea. If you went with something like this, you'd just need to frame it out some.
