What kind of snake is this?

A dead one after I opened my front door this evening and he was laying across my door facing. I thought this was January.

Craziest I've seen for rattlers. They are evolving into cold weather reptiles.

He knew a cold front is on the way, he was just moving closer to the heater.

Plenty warm around here for them to be out. Not too sure why people are so surprised. They don't move according to the month of the year but by the temps. It was nearly 70 degrees in the DFW area today. February is when we start hunting them.
