I can almost gaurantee you it's the TIPM. We read about the problem as well when my wife's Jeep GC Overland wouldn't start. The problem began months ago. First, the truck wouldn't start with the push button, but when you released it, it kept "trying" to start like it was jammed (engine turning over but not starting). We thought it was a push button ignition problem, so we removed the push button and used the key instead (the little square key end on the fob). That worked for a while, but then it started doing the same thing as the push button. Then it just stopped working all together. It wouldn't start at all. We figured out how to make it start by using the remote start while standing outside the vehicle, then getting in and putting the key in and turning it to the proper position. We got it to the dealership and explained what it was doing. We told him that we had read about the TIPM issue that Chrysler denies, but he just smiled and quietly told us "Yeah, we know about the problem, and what Chrysler say's.... It's the TIPM". They covered it under our extended warranty. My wife's Jeep had less than 55K on it. We only got a year on the new TIPM, so hopefully it will last for a while and maybe Chrysler will own up to the issue and do a recall one day soon. Problem is, as I understand it, the company that builds the TIPM is either out of business, or going out of business. Either way, the part is supposedly hard to get, and I was told we "got lucky" that the dealership just so happened to have one in stock. But they said that in a few days, they would have expected it to be gone anyway. They go through that many of them.

Sorry for the bad news, but I'm pretty sure it's the TIPM based on everything I've read and very recently experienced.

By the way... is the leather dash on your JGC peeling up? That's another issue....

        All the best,
        Glenn

Oh - another short-term "fix" for you that might work: Put the key in the ignition, or use the push button to get it to the position that you aren't starting it, but can move the gear shifter. Push in the brake and shift from Park to Drive and then back again. Now try to start it. I don't know why that worked for us, but whenever it wouldn't start, we would do that and it would start almost every time.

          All the best,
          Glenn

A buddy of mine had this happen to his jeep when we were in SA for a class, we disconnected the battery to "reset" everything and it worked. Maybe give that a try?

It was a bad starter on a 2 yr old cherokee. Not covered under warranty. To say im not happy with jeep is understatement
