    Question on free range axis

I know there are several free range herds across the state, but a couple years ago I noticed a doe outside of Fredericksburg and wondered if they would ever make it to our lease about 40 miles away. Loe and behold, this year we have had two axis sightings only two years later.

I am both excited and nervous. Excited for the opportunity to hunt a gorgeous and delicious animal. But I'm also nervous they will multiply like rabbits and run off our whitetail.

Can anybody tell me what it's like to have a lease with both free range whitetail and axis?

I hunted in Stonewall and we had a bunch of both. Didn't seem to affect anything.

Whitetail only spook when they, (Axis), herd up and are walking/running through, usually after being shot at in the feilds. We have them on our place ocassionally, and when we see the whitetail stop what they're doing and watch a certain direction, I get ready to shoot them, it's like an alarm system that the Axis are coming. They won't run off the whitetail, so you shouldn't worry about that. Sometime we will see a couple does running with whitetails.

Oh ya we are about 13 miles east of Fredricksburg

Right now the axis are coming in the feeder with the white tail. Just recently I have seen two does get back to back and run off whitetail and axis. Good thing my feeder is set at 20 sec and lets that corn fly.

There may come a time when you wish all that you had was axis and no whitetail.

Pretty sure we wont have a problem with them multiplying on our place. I have a cousin who seems to think because they're not game animals he can shoot every single one that crops up. Him and his group shot 5 in one week, the first year we ever saw 'em on our place.

I've seen 'em a couple of times since, but never at feeders, and always super skittish....
