    Never seen that before...

Well I was just walking round outside and saw something you don't normally see. There was a large flock of meadowlarks flying around, and setting in some mesquite. I walked over just cause, and in the middle of the flock was a melanistic meadow lark (all black). I'm almost dead certain it was a meadow lark as it was shaped like one, and was feeding and hanging out with the other larks, plus there weren't any black birds around. I would've took pics, but with my phone, it would've just looked like a black speck...
Oh well, it was real cool to see it.

It may have been a starling, they are shaped like a meadow lark.

Be quiet! Don't spoil my big scientific discovery!
It's possible, but would they hang out with meadow larks?

I got a ******* Saturday before last I was driving my tractor down a brushy road here by the house with my grandson Casen with me when I saw something black in the brush on the ground. I first thought it was a cat backed up and it was a black tame rabbit. I showed it to my 3 yr old grandson.....The rabbit is now staying around my cow pen ,in the yard, and playing around with the wild cottontails I have around my house. The nearest neighbor is half mile away from my house. If it can stay away from hawks, owls, coyotes, foxes, and my catahoulas. I may see some large black cottontails next year...... Andy

It could be a cowbird. They are black and about the size of a meadow lark. Not only do they hang out with other birds, they lay their eggs in other bird's nests so they don't have to raise their own.

The bird you are seeing could be either a cowbird waiting for the meadow larks to nest or a cowbird raised by meadow larks that thinks it's a meadow lark.
