    darned gas prices!

I am starting to get worried about this crap. I might not be able to afford to go hunting much this fall if it keeps going up. My spot is 30 miles each way so that is probly going to run me $400-500 a month just in gas.

If I ever have to pay for a lease I am going to have to quit. Ain't got that kind of cash.

I might have to find me a closer spot. There is some public land within 5 miles but they usually hold all the goofballs

I am lucky enough to have family land and do not need a lease. BUT I cant afford to drive to our land now...

You are lucky, it cost me 285$ round trip to get to the lease. I am starting to think it may be cheaper to fly.

30 miles one way to go hunting. I drive 50 miles one way just to go to work. Wish I had a place 30 miles away to hunt.

I agree, I am lucky enough to get a close lease this year (50 miles). My wife drives 50 mile one way also to work. I know some of ya'll drive 300+ miles one way to the lease, ya'll better have deep pockets this year.

As much money as we all spend on our favorite hobby of bowhunting, the extra cost for gas isn't that big of deal. Buy less STUFF for your bow, less toys(firearms) to play with, feed just a little less than last year and you will probably not feel it that much.

You are gonna get no sympathy on a 30 mile trip to your deer hunting area from us down here bro.

My lease is over 360 miles from my house. It is easily $250 in gas before the big price jump.

Since I found out we were drawn for CO elk, I started crunching numbers. The good news is there will be 4 of us in 1 rig. Pulling a 32' gooseneck, 5 horses and gear, with October fuel prices, we are only looking at over $1,000 in fuel

It is not just the cost of the gas. It is the cost of EVERYTHING going up because of it.

If it keeps increasing all the cutting back still will not be enough. Peoples hobbies are the first to suffer. And to the people that make their living off of our hobbies are going to be the first to really suffer.

This is beginning to get serious.

                    Here's how I see it:
People are always going to do what is important to them, that's why I don't think as Americans we are goin to complain TOO loudly about gas prices, because everyone will just adjust their lifestyle to do what they want and afford gas. I know that I personally can't just stop goin to Texas to see my inlaws just cuz gas went up (again), so instead of cancelling that, we just don't eat out anymore. While it's true that gas prices also cause everything else to go up, people will just spend less on the non-essentials in life and more on gas, food, and whatever else is important.
I also know that hunting is one of my families main sources of food, so I'll continue to hunt this fall and just won't buy as expensive Christmas presents or that new truck. It also means that I'll be at work a few more hours a week so that I can afford some of the "extras" in life.

Just my humble opinion and .02

do not worry, we are helping Mexico fight their drug war... $1.1 billion would not have bought much gas now adays anyways...

WASHINGTON — Brushing aside objections by Houston-area Republicans, the House on Tuesday approved legislation authorizing $1.1 billion in emergency assistance to Mexico over three years to combat drug traffickers. The Democratic-controlled House adopted the White House-backed Merida Initiative on a vote of 311-106.

"It is intolerable to send one dime to the Mexican government when they can afford to pay for this equipment themselves," - Rep. John Culberson, R-Houston

Many leases within 2 hours or so of DFW go for a premium price even if the hunting is not that great. I think that upward trend will continue as guys around here give up leases 6-7 hours away and try to lease something closer to save on fuel. The law of supply and demand is an unstoppable force......

costs will drop in one area and pick up in another. it will still even out so to speak, but doesnt make the pocketbook happy

I declined to get on a lease that was 150 miles from my house because I just don't want to pay for the gas.
