My wife got me one of these for Christmas and it is my first gps...so I don't have any experience with them or another unit to compare it to. So far though it is really cool. The unit itself is very robust and fits well in the hand. The screen is very easy to see in sunlight, and the two AA batteries are holding up surprisingly well. I haven't bothered to read the manual and instead have watched a few YouTube vids. A free topo for Texas is available, so I downloaded that and it is sufficiently detailed and overlays nicely with the general map. Marking way points and setting new tracks is fairly intuitive. Overall the unit itself gets an A.
Now the thing that caused me to post a review is Garmin's Base Camp software and how easily it mates with Google Earth. Just plug the 62s into your laptop, and Base Camp auto loads your data. Choose what data you want to view then choose Google Earth. Whanmo, pulls it right up, and you can save your data no sweat. Very cool for hiking. I want to buy the lakes and bays maps so I can do the same thing fishing this spring.
Guess that's about it, two thumbs up so far!
