    No brow tines...:

At what age do you cull a buck with no brows? I passed on a 1.5 (maybe 2.5) 5 pt with no brows at all. Is it common for a buck with branched antlers to spontaneously grow them?

I'm not a fan of culling any deer younger than 3.5 and at 3.5 it would have to have no brows, if it's an 8 it can live until 4.5. I let a 100" 7 with no brows walk a couple years ago at 4.5 and he turned into a 130" 9 with one brow at 5.5.

4.5. Even without brows its a trophy for a youngster or a lady. Let them mature.

2.5-3.5 depending on the rest of his rack and yes it is.

I'm not fond of bucks that don't have brow tines- seems like genetic thing to me. We generally try to cull them early to leave room for the ones with nice brows.

We typically do not harvest any bucks until they are 4.5 years of age. There are too many variables other than genetics that could cause undesirable antler qualities at ages younger than 4.5… it works for us!
