    Cold front theory?

Sitting in blind in spice wood. Cold front just blew in. Temp dropped and wind is up. How does this effect deer movement? Never had a front move in on me while in stand.

I think they honker down for the most part and wait to see how bad its gonna get. I like to hunt to 2 or three hours before it comes, no matter what time of day it is.

that said, you never know. deer do unpredictable things.

I have always heard that they get up to move. However, at least at my place, the colder and nastier it is the less I see.

A doe and her yearling came through minutes before it hit. They were not slowing down.

They bed down and hide from the wind and cold.

                Yep.

More deer on cams when it is 100 degrees in August.

I have always thought that a front will screw them up for a couple of days. I think they live and die based on wind direction. They get into travel patterns based on the prevailing wind. When that wind changes they tend to travel less until it settles down again. That does not mean they quit moving, they just do not move as much and are much more cautious. I prefer to hunt a few days before or after a front like this one if I can. I do not have that luxury most of the time so I hunt when I can and keep the wind to my noise.

This has been my experience too. I never see deer moving when it is windy like this.

Sat in my blind from 6am till 5pm, never saw a deer. Couldn't believe it.

When a front moves in we will see less deer for one or two hunts but the few hunts after that are usually great

I have always liked to hunt two or three days before a front blows in. Once the front comes in they do seem to "stay close to home" and give it a few days to blow over.

Deer still move during cold fronts. They just change travel routes to and from food sources etc... they will take the route with the least amount of wind and try to keep the wind at their back. Think of places that provide this near food and cover and you will see them.
