    ARs and the like

So I am thinking about purchasing some type of AR this next year. Mainly to keep at the house for protection and possibly to hunt some pigs and entertain guests. Just wondering if y'all have had experience with ARs before and got any advice on the topic.

Your going to get a lot of opinions on this. I didn't have any plans for home protections when I got mine. My plans were for a varmint rig. I went with an RRA Coyote with a 20" BBL 1:9 twist. Mine will shoot sub moa anything from 45gr up to 77gr. I think RRA guaranteed it to shoot .75" at 100yrds.

Colt 6920...will hold it's value, a 'true' battle gun & will also hunt.

I have a RRA and love it, but just buy something with a little quality and it will last a lifetime.

Plus you can buy one at most Wal-Marts.

^^ This, bought one right before everything went crazy a couple yrs ago. With some good glass on top, they will lay down a 'yote from a pretty good distance. Turned down really good money during the frenzy, love mine.

IMHO it's hard to beat a rock river. I know there are some better and some not so good. But they just flat out shoot. I bought a DPMS ORICAL and love it. So far it hold around a 1" group @ 100yds. I'm shooting 65 gr bullet. But just figure out what you want it for and what options you want and go get it.

I have a DPMS. Love it. Bought it for fun and hunting. They are economical but very well made.

Shoots great even at 500 yds

A big 10-4 on the rra. Its awful hard to to pick up another bolt gun for sure. Mine seems to shoot better the more rounds I burn through it.

it's hard to beat rra for a hunting rig with a stainless bbl for that application...everyone I have handled shot great on paper.

However, you cannot surpass the Colt if you need more of a protection / defense set up & the occaisional hunt. It has better parts for a ground and pound gun.

Just depends what one wants in their particular ar & primary purpose.

I have had bad experiences w/ dpms & glad to hear yours is running.

Hoping to stay some where around $1000. Does that sound reasonable?
