Addiction????

Need a little help guys. I know this is a hunting site but there is also a bunch off knowledgable folks here on other subjects besides just hunting.

Is it possible to force an adult family member in to rehab for a pharmaceutical drug addiction? Or do they have to be willing to go?
Any help or advice on this is greatly appreciated.

In my opinion you can't force anyone to quit-they have to want to quit.

Wish I could be more help but there are folks on here that will be able to help

It is unbelievable how many avenues and how easy it is to get pain killers. When your a addict and know the tricks!!!!

It's about to that point. We are at a fork in the road. It's life or death at this point. That bad.

Forcing a person into rehab is a waste of money. For sobriety to work that person has to admit they have a problem and want help and sobriety or they will just go back to their same habits right after release from rehab. I have been sober for 21 years but I wanted to get sober and I asked for help because I was gonna loose everything I had including my life if I hadn't.

I'm the daughter of an avid hunter, tough love and God is what has worked for me! Not the first time or even the second time either, I ended up in prison and it's still a struggle but it is possible to overcome. But sometimes people have to to get so low they don't see any light at the end of the tunnel. Once that is achieved, this is me speaking personally, one will see life as it is supposed to be seen and live it! There will be slip ups but you take those and learn from them. They can be we sentenced to a rehab place if they get arrested
If they happen to say " I want to kill myself" you might be able to have them sent for an evaluation.

Yep^^^ If he gets arrested, the Court can force him into rehab, otherwise he is like any other drug addict. Good luck.

You can't force an adult. That is part if the mental health problem. You can take them, but they can sign out anytime. A person, as bweger has mentioned, has to want help. It is terribly frustrating to see a person get to the point of life or death. I personally.feel family members should be allowed to force a person , be able to get a court order for forced treatment. But, until they hurt themselves or another, court order can not be obtained. And even then it is only a 72 hour hold in most cases and all that does is pizz the person off. Will pray for a good outcome here.
