    Since when?

Did Directv quit getting on your roof? I was in the process of changing form Dish to Directv to lower my bill, the service tech came out and the wife told him that we would like him the use their mount that they left on the roof 2 1/2 years age. He told her that they are not allowed to get on the roof. He said that they are not allowed to get off the ladder. So he looks around the house and says that there is no place around our house that he could get signal to mount the antenna.

He left and now I have to figure out my next move.

This comes a day after a tech from Time Warner tells me that he can not install cable internet to the house because the service is not close enough. I have had TWC on my property at my shop but it came off of a different power pole up the street.

All of my cost cutting ideas are out the window because no one wants to hook up service.

Probably after the last time they were sued for "damage" to a 20+ year old roof, installing a service and equipment someone agreed to have installed... on their roof.

A friend used to work for direct and he said their insurance did not cover them getting off of ladders. To much liability walking on a roof.

They gave me the same crap in april after I had already dropped DISH. They said I would have to call another installer. I went to a local T.V. store in town that installs both. They came out and moved my satellite about 3 ft. and it was fine.

Pyro, your cost cutting will still work! Just cut out all cable and go with antenna. That's what I did.

I did that at two different houses.

I sunk me a 4"x4" pole in concrete and mounted my own.

How far away is your house from the service pole?
We usually will install up to 300' from the pole.

PM me your address and I'll look it up on our maps tomorrow to see if you are actually non-serviceable.

My guess it was due to all of the damage caused by installers just screwing the thing into roofs improperly. No flashing or any type of means of keeping water from rotting the decking and ultimately leaking into people's homes. When we got a dish, I made the tech install it on the edge of the eave. I worked for a remodeling firm and cant tell you how many homes we had to repair due to dishes mounted improperly on the roofs of homes. Just boggled my mind on how the installers got away with this practice or wouldnt even think of the consequences of piercing a roof on top of shingles with 4 lag screws without any type of water barrier protection or prevention???

It its possible to install it yourself. My brother and I have done it a couple of times. The tech has all the cool gadgets and meters, but it can be done without those.

Which is exactly why I mounted my own beams in the ground. I didn't want to screw holes in my own roof and it wouldn't be any better if they did it for me.

I am assuming that if I got a new system with free install, they would gladly mount it for me with all their (as txfireguy says) cool gadgets.

We have a barndominium, they put ours on a pole in the ground about 20' from the house and buried the cable.

When I upgraded from standard DirecTV to HD, they put a pole in the backyard instead of mounting the dish on the same bracket that the other one was on (that I installed on the barge rafter) for years. Just something else to mow around and try to keep the **** dog from chewing up.
