    Two, First Bow Kills

My buddy Jason and I headed up to Brady late Thursday evening so we could be ready in the morning. Our buddy Bucky was coming down early friday morning from Breckenridge to get his first, along with mine bow kill. Our targets this late in the season were cull bucks and does. He shows up early Friday morning when around 4:45 when we were just waking up. Weather was warm so we threw on our camo and headed out. That morning Bucky and Jason sat in his pop up that is nestled in some thick vines under a large mature oak tree looking out to his feeder that is positioned in a small bottom area that the deer love to travel while I was on the north part of the property in a now barren mesquite flat. At first light they had two young eight points hang around for awhile and then meander off. All I saw were young yearling does with mama nowhere to been seen.

Bucky had his own bow but hadn't been able to spend as much time with it as he would have liked. So that afternoon we spent time getting him comfortable and before long he was drilling bulls at 20 yards. His confidence was high and he was ready to hunt.

The evening hunt was much of the same for them but I had this spike walk out 5 yards from my pop up around 4:30pm and he just looked at me wrong for the last time. I got the video camera set and waited for him to relax and start feeding. As I drew back everything was running through my head, anchor position, form, exactly where I wanted the shot to go. He finally settled in as i prepared for the shot.

I had good blood at first but it turned light quick. I found my deer about 140 yards away.

Jasons and Bucky's hunt was uneventful that evening with no targets presenting themselves

The next morning we moved Bucky to a treestand that overlooks a small clearing that leads to the protein feeder. He saw alot of deer but was on a learning curve as it was his first time in a tree stand. He told us he thought he was spooking deer because he was moving to much.
That evening was a different story, we got in the blinds around 12:30pm to make a long sit. All was slow until around 5:00pm when I get a text from Bucky with the first picture. By the time I got back to him telling him to smoke him the axis buck had moved off into the brush. I felt horrible because it was my fault for not getting back to him fast enough that he missed his chance at that buck. Luck would have it though and another spike moved in and gave Bucky his chance. Like a pro he sent that arrow right behind the first shoulder hitting both lungs and catching the opposite shoulder. I get the text saying spike down and say screw as light was fading and started packing up. I just so happen to look up and see a grey fox under my feeder, I look down to grab my release and look back up and he is gone.

Buckys deer maybe went 50 yards and crashed, great ethical kill

Nice video Congrats on the kills. Too bad about the Axis. We found out this weekend the neighbors shot two of them, one 34" and the other 36"
