Question for Knife makers...can you fix a bad blade??

This guy was made by a gent of the name JD Lambert out of Ganado, TX about 15-20yrs ago...I have two others and they are fantastic knives & were quite pricey at the time.

Had this one special made & had to track him down for quite some time to finally get it and was not anything near what I ordered or the normal service/communication received from his previous two. Anyway, heard he had some personal issues and just kinda vanished & this one has been sitting here.

Anyway, I don't know metals...so not sure if the temper was bad or if he used different steel, but this one will actually change color after it gets wet and you have to use brasso or flitz with some elbow grease to get it looking like a custom knife again. I have not used it enough to know how well it holds edge as the whole deal stuck in my craw.

So, can the blade be checked / reborn under certain circumstances or is it like some folks say you can't keep re-freezing meat?? I know I kinda got the chinga on the knife, I still have soft spot for his roll stamp as one was my first custom and another was given as an anniversary...I would like to make this one into a work horse, but there is way too much maintenance after use.

    Thoughts??

To retemper it, the handle would have to come off. It's not a full tang so it's probably glued in the handle and that could ruin it aesthetically, getting it off. Maybe just a regrind to get the taper correct could help it.

It's probably made with O1 carbon steel which is an awesome steel but stains easily.

PM me...he is my dad. He has stepped away from the knife business for a while because of his job. He has been working on his shop to get it going again.

Thanks mojo...it has been a while but your Dad's table was always the first one I would search out when the expo came to town. I'm sure he will dig seeing one of his old creations.

I'll get a hold of him in a week or two...Merry Christmas!!

I bought the middle one from him with the stag handle on Friday the 13th, 18yrs ago on the day I married my bride....it is my main go to knife & always in the hunting bag.

Was it made by Jerrel lambert ? Or the older jd? There are two knife makers in Ganado . Jerrel is a master blade smith . I have 2 of his knives and they are amazing

Jarrell and JD are the same person. Been away hunting, have not had much cell service. I believe Dad only had two stamps on his knife: Lambert and JD Lambert Ganado, TX.

The other knife maker is Gene Alexander.
