How to make fletchings from feathers?

I have some turkey feathers from a hunt this weekend, and I would like to use them to make fletchings for arrows if I can. Any advice on whether this is possible to do yourself and if so, how?

It's not hard but you need a few things, a straight fletching clamp, a good sharp knife, a sander, and a feather chopper or burner.

Take the knife and split the quills. There is a groove down the quill and the knife will follow it. I prefer to pull the feather instead of the knife through the feather.

Cut the feather slightly longer than you want and put it in the fletching clamp. Hold it to the sander, first doing the base and then do the side.

Stick it in the chopper and chop to shape and your done.

I did something a little different. I found a youtube video ages ago. There is a "skin" on the outside of the quill. If u cut the base of the quill you can flake up an edge of the skin and peel it back. No need to sand anything. The skin leaves a curved base like blazer vanes.

It takes a little practice so start with the opposite wing. Then use the chopper or a hotwire burner.
