Group Christmas Gift swap game rules?

Went to a company Christmas party last night and we were required as couples to bring 1 gift and you know the rest.....draw numbers to see who goes 1st to last "stealing" gifts as the "game" goes on till the end.

My wife draws #7 (last number) so I'm thinking...you get whatever you want if you don't open the last unopened gift...

I have been to so many of these and the rules seem to change at each event!

I steal the #1 guys gift (nobody else had taken it) and HE steals it back when the other folks say "he get's final steal!" He then takes the gift back from me LOL!

To top it off I got my own gift I had brought back LOL!

I looked up the game and this version is called the Yankee version.

    Not my favorite!

In my past experience if you drew # 1 you didn't get last pic.

Oh, I forgot to say the guy OPENED the last remaining unopened gift before he switched back!

Before you ask, he got a portable vaccum cleaner (really small) and my 2 gifts that I put in as my gift were some high tech Seruos Innovation gloves (micro touch-can work cell phones etc.) and a Hybrid light flashlight (solar and battery powered-waterproof and floats).

I feel I still won LOL mine was well over $20 limit.

How do you guys and gals play the game?

    Oh, below is Yankee rules.

    Yankee Swap

For Yankee swap you'll need eight or more players. Each player should bring a wrapped gift to the game. Consider setting a price limit on the gift ahead of time. For the purposes of this explanation, assume you have 15 players. Write the numbers 1 through 15 on slips of paper. Fold the slips in half, mix them up in a bowl or hat and then let each person randomly choose a slip of paper. The person with number 1 will be the first to choose a gift from the middle of the room and unwrap it. The person with number 2 will then pick a gift and unwrap it. At that point, he can choose to keep the gift he just took or swap with number 1. Each subsequent player has the choice to keep the gift she unwrapped or swap with another player. After the last player has gone, the person with the number 1 will have a chance to swap since she didn't have the option in the beginning.
