1800 acres MLDIII and not looking back. The biologist comes out when we invite him to answers questions and offer his advice based on the survey info we provide and what he sees around us. Camera surveys have made us venture into areas that we were not going into prior to becoming management minded as a collective group. It has definitely improved our deer heard.

We don't hunt that hard either is one reason we don't shoot to many does. We are the epitome of Deer Camp Socialization. LOL

Also, as an example, if you get 10 doe and 5 buck permits via MLD and you kill 8 does and 4 bucks no one is going to get in trouble. Now if you shoot less than half your permits for several years in a row it might get you a few questions and maybe a meeting with the bio. Last year I think we had 10 buck permits and we only killed 6 if I remember correctly. We shot two trophies and four mgt deer. After that we couldnt find any more mgt deer we felt needed to go. This was backed up by our private bio. The TPWD bio never questioned it. This year if we can find two mgt deer that have gone nocturnal we will shoot our 8 bucks.Last edited by JeffJ; 12-10-2013, 10:33 AM.

Why?
This way we can shoot them ANY time of the season and not having to rely on the first 2 weeks of the season which is our doe days.
For the OP, we been on LAMPS as far as I can remember. Never had any kind of State employee show up or come in on our place. My brother just fills out some paper work each year and we get tags. There has been a lot of times we never used one tag.Originally posted by aclark0495 View PostWe take what they give us and manage it like we see fit.

My question is why do you take so many tags when you know you're not going to use them all?
Why not give them back so others could possibly receive them?
Here, in Lavaca County, they give out roughly 1 doe tag per 50 acres.
We missed the deadline because we got on a DeWitt county lease too late this year, but if Dewitt does it similar, we should get 7-8 doe tags next year.
8 does shot will not make much of a difference when we have 20+ showing up at 2 different blinds at the same time.
Even if we shoot all 8, and only half of the remaining 30 or so does have only a single fawn survive next year, the population will still increase by 15 or so.
If half of those 15 are does, then we're back to the original doe population.
If the neighbors don't get tags at all or don't shoot what they're supposed to, then there will be even more next year.

MLD permits are the only reason I have ever killed a deer. I started the program for our ranch, and have been able to take a doe every year since then. We have practically no bucks and quite a few doe, so it is nice knowing that even though I am in a no doe county, I can still manage my herd through MLD.
