    Need advice - Anchoring/Freezing

Okay, so it was sub freeezing this weekend. I jumped into the bow blind so I could stay warmer thanks to my new buddy heater. It was 24 degrees outside and blowing a bit and we had more windows open than I would have wanted - long story, involves friggin cows It was still cold so I had my fleace face mask and my hoodie on my head. I had on my glove/mit. Nothing came by, which was good because towards the end of the hunt I decided I should have tried drawing to make sure I could with all these clothes on. Guess what... I couldn't hit my anchor point at all. I could not imagine my frustration if I had drawn on an animal and found myself in that situation. Too much clothes between my face and my knuckle!

So what the heck am I supposed to do in this situation?

My anchor is my 1st nuckle tucked under my ear and nose on the sting. The only thing I could think of is that I could just wear a hat that I could get my hand up under there and maybe just use a muff to keep my hands warm go gloveless.

What say you green screen? I've seen folks who post pictures of them with scarfs around thier face, etc... how do you hit your anchor?

I wear a wool neck gaiter pulled up over my face, and pull it down before I shoot. I have not practiced with it up so I have to shoot bare faced to find my anchor. I wear a fairly lightweight glove on my bow hand but not on my string hand. I keep my hands in a muff around my waist with some warmer packets.

I have a neoprene 1/2 face mask that is perfect for this very reason. It's thin, has a nose piece and velcro in the back.

If I fire up the buddy heater in my blind, I start shedding clothes. Were you still cold?

1.... Body Warner's stuck on your chest and between your shoulders
2.....Hand Warner's in your coat pocket instead of gloves
I wear a set of under armour, then a set of mud weight cabelas thermals, pants loose fitting camo pullover , then a dry plus ran suit.
With a heater in use that all I needed and it was 14 degrees.
Mind you I do wear glove to and from

Base layer made of fleece and wool..... trust me it makes a whole hell of a difference.

If I see a shot opportunity I just take off the gloves and face mask. I rarely wear either anyway and almost always hunt out of my pop up.

I do the same thing (see avatar). I do practice with my micro-fleece head cover and light gloves, but pull down the gaiter before the shot. Kisser button helps also, since I can feel it through the face mask.

First knuckle on my trigger finger behind my ear--can feel it through gloves and a fleece gaiter, so no problem for me.
