When do they move in weather like this ?

    What say you GS ?

I was thinking they holed up last night and this morning, but there were lots of tracks around, so I guess they were moving this morning?

    Hope they move this afternoon?

This is the kind of weather where you pack your breakfast, lunch and dinner in a backpack and stay in the stand the entire day.

Every deer I saw between 10 & 3 was laying under an oak tree. Since 3 they have been everywhere. This morning they were jumping and chasing like little kids.

According to biologist, when it gets really cold their body will start "eating itself" or burning muscle. They have to consume groceries to survive.

                  This.

Deer move when it's cold because they have to.

I'd bet they are hitting the corn hard today - they need to eat to stay warm and ice is covering their natural groceries. Makes me almost glad I don't have a Covert - it would be frustrating to sit at home on a weekend and get emails all day long of deer at my feeders in broad daylight.....

A vet told me that an outside dog burns twice the calories during extreme cold weather vs extreme hot so if the same is true for deer they are up feeding.

I would love to go but what about the roads where you are?

A day or 2 after it blows through will be crazy.

I'll be there Tuesday - Thursday.

This is the starting of the second day of bad weather. Tonight will be cold as the dickens, so tomorrow the deer should be moving after the sun comes up. They will need to feed as they will be really hungry. Be prepared to hunt in the warmest part of the day, probably around 11:00 A.M. until around 4:00 P.M.. They may get out earlier if there is a clear day and they can feel the warmth of the sun.
