Heck of a time for my furnace to quit working..

Woke up to a cold house this morning - bad timing with the low temps predicted for the next few days. I went up in the attic and checked it out -blower kicks on for a few minutes but it is not igniting. (no pilot, electronic) I'm thinking swapping out the igniter would be a pretty easy fix but I don't have time to mess with it before the cold hits so I called a guy to come to look at it. I'm sure the emergency HVAC "Bend-Over Rates" will apply but I have no choice at this point....

Might be a cut out switch. Good luck.

Furnace guy just left my house. $4,000 for a new furnace/A/C. Ouch! I'm in Pa so don't have much of a choice. Timing sure does suck though.

Did you jiggle the handle? Sometimes that works.

Is the inducer motor coming on?

Most hot surface ignitors physically break or crack when they fail. Look at it and see if there is a crack or chalkiness/oxidation. If not I bet your problem lies elsewhere.

Assume the position. Hope it turns out to be a minor fix

mine did that last year. all i did was take the igniter out and cleaned with some fine grit sandpaper and plugged it back in and it started working. Don't know if that's what fixed it but it worked. you can test the continuity of the ignitor with a volt meter.

Might need a new sky hook.

I did the exact same thing last year and it has been working ever since.

                  Good luck.

Well, the repairman called and I lucked out - just needed a new igniter. Kind of chaps me to pay someone when it turned out to be something I could have fixed myself. BUT - many years of marriage has taught me the extra $ is a small thing when compared to having a frozen and angry wife!

Didn't you read his post? It's electric. Just needs a can of Arc Start.
