We stayed with my parents one night, I got out of bed moved a tv stand with tv and DVD player on top with 15 DVDs stacked ontop of it, opened the blinds then the window popped the screen, climbed outside naked then got back in and went to bed! Woke up at daybreak asking why the heck the window was open! Then the wife explained my doings! That's the worst with a witness! I'm prone to doing it out of town too! I have walked thru south Texas pasture barefoot at night, woke up with bleeding feet don't know if a snake bite would of woke me or not! Left the place in poc at 2am came back before daylight in my under wear. All of these night I woke up thinking I never left the bed!

Between age 34 and 38, I slept walked nearly every night.
Not just a lap around the house, but everything from moving furniture to going outside.
I lived by myself, and it took a few months for me to figure out what was going on. I would wake up in the morning, and the furniture would be moved. I thought I had a ghost.
At one point, I would go outside to a storage room. One night I did that, and tripped. Busted my chin on a milk crate, and ended up with 12 stitches.
It was dangerous, and it is not something to take lightly.
Ultimately, I found it was related to two things. First was a particular type of work related stress (combine steep learning curves, bleeding-edge technology, and schedule), and the second was alcohol.

I worked at a camp 2 years ago and one of my campers slept walk so I learned a lot about it. I'll tell you this, your mind is a crazy thing. As far as keeping a pistol by the bed, it doesn't really matter where it is because your mind knows. At camp we set a string of cans across the door so it would wake us up if he tried to leave the cabin but he watched us do it. The next morning the sting and cans were laying on the ground in a pile. He untied the string in his sleep and walked out the door. From then on we had to wait until he went to bed and them move a bunk in front of the door. A couple nights we would wake up to the sound of him running into the bunk.
