    What's a good scope for an AR15?

Are any of the illuminated reticles any good? Looking for something in the 3x9 range.

I have a Burris w/illuminated reticle that's great. Leupold's IR's are awesome and Shepherd's IR's are the best of the lower end scopes.

Got a Barska 3x9 with IR and range compensation. Sportsmans guide like $59.00. I know it probably isn't the best in the world but works pretty good.....

What is your spending range???? Sounds like a short dot would work great for what you are looking for..

I wouldn't want to spend too much over $500.

Are you wanting any magnification or just a dot?

approx. 3x9 magnification for shooting hogs and coyotes out in our fields, most of the time at night

Turbo, I have the same question.

I'd think that you would want a 50mm objective at least to pull in the light at night. Do ya'll think a 40 or 42 would work?

I'm thinking on putting a hog light on top of my scope (when I make up my mind) and I want the scope to collect as much light as possible. Seeing the reflection of their eyes in the scope.

                Thanks for the post!!!!!

The 50mm objective is probably a good idea. Normally I don't go that big because I don't like it to sit that high off my rifle, but with the AR you have to mount it up high anyway for the eye alignment, so might as well get more light with the 50 mm. It looks like there are three categories of scopes with the options and illuminated reticles i'm looking for:
                  1. low end- Barska
                  2. mid- Burris
                  3. high- Leupold
Afraid if I don't spend enough I won't get the quality I'm looking for and if I spend too much, I will baby the gun too much. Kinda leaning towards the Burris Fullfield II LRS 3.5-10x- 50mm at the moment. http://www.burrisoptics.com/fullfield2.html
                  Any experience with these optics?

EOTECH with IR capabilities would probably do you just fine and be in the $500 range. They have one now that has built in yardage for 223

Will this get to yardages out to 200 yds?

There is no magnification in an EoTech and although I shoot one at man size targets @ 200yds I don't think that it will fit your needs.. You CAN find an ACOG 4x on ARFCOM OFTEN for ~$500.. That would be the way to go IMO.. You won't need over 4x @ 200 when you have CLEAR glass..

Thanks, I looked at these awhile back and liked them. They seem well built and I like that they don't use batteries.

If you are looking at scopes, don't forget Nikon. If you are using a light to shoot by(spotlight), you won't need a 50mm objective, 40mm will be plenty. An ACOG would be great but they aren't cheap, even used.
