We still have backyard shoot outs with the red ryders. Cans and such around the backyard at different distances. Those things are accurate if you learn the fall of the bb.
I got my daughter a Red Rider a few years back and she had a hard time pulling the trigger on it. So I went out and bought a Crossman (the 10 pump ones) and she had a easier time with it. I have to pump it for her but thats ok. We had the same issue with my buddies Mosberg youth pump shotgun. The trigger and safety on those things are stiff. So much so that my daughter gave up on dove hunting after a few tries.
You'll be buying yourself one probably too, after you remember how fun they are to shoot. I was given a Daisy Buck years ago. It's still running fine despite the lever snapping as mentioned above. I rounded out the rough edges on the lever and continued shooting.
That was long while ago. Then about two summers ago, I started thinking about all the grasshoppers everywhere (we get a plague of "locusts" every year). Turns out, Red Ryders are the perfect pesticide! I'll go out when I'm bored and kill a couple hundred grasshoppers. And the good thing is the ammo is doggone cheap!
My son is 4. I bought a red ryder. it is surprisingly accurate. The only complaint is the trigger pull is so hard he has to use two fingers to pull it.
