contact the carrier, they can unlock. typically they require the phone to be paid for/out of contract/not past due. they will do it for free.

I believe there is a how to video on youtube. It involves dialing 911 then hanging up real quick, so I don't recommend it. I saw someone try it once (unsuccessfully).

depending on what phone you have, it may or may not work for verizon. verizon uses cdma and att gsm (sim card). most phones are either or and not both, however some high end phones work for either and on all bands.

Im switching to Verizon but I dont want to pay for new phones. My wife and I have our phones through ATT currently.

i was trying to do this and was told by verizon that even though the phone would work that verizon does not allow phones on thier network that they did not sell.

It was NO big deal at all though since they actually have a great buy back program. We got 2 verizon gift cards for our ATT iPhone 4s's that were $199 each and applied them to the monthly bills. Basically got new 5S's for free!

BTW, In Verison is WAY better for me so far. I could have ATT full service 4g and it not work in some areas. Verizon LTE is awesome!
