I heard they added a 6A division. Sounds like if you were a 3A you are now a 4A, if you were 4A you're now a 5A, etc...

Then schools like yours that would have moved up one spot, now jump 2 spots. You should have moved up to 3A but with the new system you are now going to be 4A.

That's exactly what happened. Some people will panic but really everyone moves up.

While it's true that everyone moves up, thus making the competition brackets remain basically the same, there are more groups affected than just athletics. Music groups have to compete according to UIL alignment, but their music has to be selected from A, AA, AAA, AAAA, and AAAAA lists, based on their UIL classifications. Grade A music is the simplest and Grade AAAAA is the most difficult. We are required to play one selection from our classification, then one from any classification of our choice. All that being said, a current 2A band that that only has to play off the A and AA lists who should have moved to 3A will now be in 4A--bumping them up TWO levels in music difficulty. Keep in mind the numbers of the band didn't change, the level of talent didn't change, the number of directors on staff didn't change, but now they have to play from a list a level above their presumed ability level. Presents quite a quandary and challenge for us ol' band directors!
