E85 - anyone run it in their truck

Stopped today to get some gas and noticed the station had both gas and e85 at the pump.

    Gas 3.09/gal
    e85 2.79/gal

I read online that on average you lose 30% less mileage. Did some quick math and wondered why someone would use it over gas? Is there any benefit to the truck to use it? Or is it only the lessen dependence on oil? Or is my math messed up?

    Here's my math:

    Gas:
    30 gal tank
    16 mpg
    480 miles on full tank
    cost to fill up: $93
    Cost per mile: .19

    e85
    30% less mileage = 11 mpg
    330 miles on full tank
    cost to fill up: $84
    Cost per mile: .25

I have and I got 3-4 less on MPG, not worth the savings

Btw I'm not a fan of turning my food or my food's food into gas. Would rather it be used to feed people/animals and keep food prices lower.

I've heard that it is awful for the engine, it has sugars in it that can really gum up your fuel injectors and scratch cylinder walls. I am no mechanic how ever thats just what I've heard.

Add in the costs to clean and replace injectors and components due to that crap gumming stuff up and you wont think the price is so right

Ran it once in my wife's armada. There was a noticeable power difference. But like what has already been said, the mileage was awful.

Never been tempted, the way the 10% stuff screws up my lawn mowers and such! I hate to think what it's doing to an expensive car.

My wife ran it once in her Jeep, which is designed to run it (against my recommendations).... and she said she will never do it again. The truck was almost new, and it ran like crap. Lack of power, lack of mileage, sounded / acted like it had water in the gas. She ran that tank down and never used it again.

                All the best,
                Glenn

I put it in my truck one time a couple of years ago, got home and barely made it back to the station to fill up. The loss of MPG is very noticeable.

I have actually used it 4 or 5 times and have gotten the same mpg as regular.

My truck seemed to have less get up and go too

My owners manual also warned not to use if you are towing anything. That lines up with several of the above comments about powe lost.

Stay away from this stuff. It will simply ruin your engine. This is another of those things that the government mandated that will simply cost you money, big time.
