Trail cam question - having batteries in it while connecting to external battery

Want willing to try it out to see what would happen if I kept batteries in cam while also hooked up to external. I am asking for two reasons. Internal batteries serve as backup and most importantly just bought an m80. Have it hooked up to external (all cams on external. Best decision I ever made). Unfortunately way they designed cam you have to unplug external battery to open case due to location of cam ext cable jack. Don't think their engineers thought this one through. So in order to modify settings or take out card you have to unplug cable. No display available from outside the cam so once you shut case and plug cable back in you are left wondering if everything is working.

Will probably get a drimmel and cut case for to enable door to be closed and opened without having to unplug.

What say you - will batteries internally fry the cam when I hook up the external?

The brain trust here at TBH discussed this on one of the threads awhile back. I believe Jason Smart says that the Moultrie cams state to leave the internal batteries in with external power sources. I know you don't leave them in with the Primos cams...not sure about other manufacturers.

I wouldn't think leaving them in would damage the cam but not sure.

Did a search beforehand but will go back to see if I can nail down that thread. Will call moultrie to confirm tomorrow but after dealing with their front line customer service folks last week a bit gunshy about anything they tell me.

      Thanks bud.

I have several M80 with internal batteries and the external power supply that moultrie makes with the built in solar panel. I have no problems with the cameras with both. The M80 that don't have external power source I run the lithium energizer batteries and they last several months. I run my cameras with a 30 second delay on feeders and get lots of pictures. If you have anymore questions let me know.

        Thanks,
        KP

Thank you. This will make it much easier. As my cams die off I will start replacing then with the 80s. I love my two old I40s but they still have not gotten the infamous display problem resolved. As long as moultrie keeps sending me free displays I will keep them going checked the pics of my new m80 return and was very pleased. Only problem was no deer
