Iowa is probably the toughest non resident whitetail tag to get in the nation. It is the toughest I know of.

Got 5 preference points. Putting in for the draw next year.
Have you spent much time up there this year? How is your deer herd from what you saw or heard this year?

          Non resident landowner tags.....no.

As a resident landowner I can get one antlerless tag that can be used on my land only during one of the shotguns seasons only. And that one doe tag would cost me over $300.00.
Man that sucks... I guess in a way it's good too. I'm looking into buying a property somewhere in the next 10 years or so that will be strictly deer hunting property. Kansas and Kentucky are looking better all the time.

Not all that good. EHD has hit parts of the state hard. The deer numbers are down.

All the hunting shows make everyone think there is huge buck behind every bush but in reality the hunting for the most part is very tough in Iowa.

If you are a resident landowner you can kill a bunch of deer.

I live in Central Iowa and I can tell you that the deer numbers are WAY down in my area. I hunted HARD during the rut and I only saw 2 bucks that would be "shooters", over 150". The scary part was the lack of does. We used to see 20-25 deer every time we hunted, now we are lucky if we even see a deer.

This has been the toughest deer season I have ever had in the 23 years I have lived here. My family and I started to notice the lower numbers about two years ago, so we started to cut back on the doe tags and the number of deer that we were shooting, I have 7 kids and they all love to hunt. But it took awhile for some of the neighbors to see the numbers going down. Now everyone is complaining. It's a perfect storm of habitat loss (tons of CRP pulled out) and too many doe tags being filled. Hopefully people will see that they need to back off and the deer will rebound, only time will tell.

Guys wanting to hunt S. Cental Iowa may want to wait couple years as the deer herd was hammered by EHD. Lot's of guys that normally hammer the big ones are whining right now. Great state to hunt when it's rocking

Not a truer statement made. That statement is true for allot of the mid-west.

Great buck killed by your neighbor in tough times.
