    Duck call makers.. Tool questions?

For those of you who make calls. If you had a budget of $1000-$1500 what tools would you buy to get started turning calls? This will be for turning barrels only no inserts yet. Which lathe, tools, bits, and whatever else would you buy to start out with?

I have made...a bunch with a job fox...cost about $225ish best I can remember. Had it for 5-6 years now. Never use my 4' anymore. I've got less than $1500 in my jigs, press,2 lathes, bits, tools, ect.

Just to make barrel...all you need is a 5/8" bit. That's what 99% of "call makers " do. Drill hole in pretty wood and add poly insert. Only tool you will need in addition is a band saw to make insert.....and a ton of files

I could be way off, but couldn't you do all you'd need to and some with a shopsmith?

I have 2 lathes, delta and a jet. If I was going to buy another it would be the one I could find on sale. both are great. like LF said if all your doing is the barrels all you really need is a 5/8 drill bit. And some way of holding that block on the lathe. I use expanding mandrels for most all my calls.
