Well around 4 am this morning my wife wakes me up to tell me that her electric blanket on her side of the bed isnt working. After I get up I notice that the power in the house is out. Freezing rain must have knocked out the power. No big deal, I'll just get a fire going. We have a fireplace in our bedroom and in the living room, so I get them both going, and not knowing how long the power will be out I bring both the kids down stairs and put them in bed with us to keep warm. Fast forward a hour and Im laying there not being able to get back to sleep, and I hear a loud pop, more of a boom though. I jump out of bed and run into the living room thinking that something was in the fire. Nothing, fire still going strong and nothing out of the ordinary with the fire, then it hits me. It smells like an electrical fire! As i'm frantically tearing the living room apart trying to find it my wife comes running in to help, we check the tv, dvd player, kids playstation, nothing they are all good. As im scratching my head my wife yells look! There it is, the heater in the kids aquarium had burst and somehow blown out of the aquarium! Its hanging by the electrical cord burning on the outside of the tank! Luckily it only charred the wall a little, and luckily my wife spotted it or it could have gotten really bad! Thankful my kids were keeping me awake tossing and turning! Guess there is always a silver linning!
