    Minerals vs protein

Ok, we feed protein at different places on our ranch. We are low fenced and don't have the natural protein sources that a lot of areas do, (cedar country).
The protein helps but I'm curious if anyone has seen a big change after feeding a mineral supplement alongside the protein? Mineral blocks aren't an option due to pigs and coons.
    Thanks

Protein pellets should have enough minerals to meet their needs.

Peyton is right, however, different brands/mixes have different mineral packages. For example, we have been feeding protein for about 5 years on our lease, but I took over last year because I could get it cheaper by switching to Purina brand. Fed their 20 percent "wildlife feed" all last year and they really took to it, but this year, we switched to 20 percent antler max. We didn't feed as much of it (price of all mixes went up, couldn't afford to feed as much, but since the antler max was only a little more per bag, that's what we went with). Anyway, we didn't feed quite as much, but the results have been head and shoulders better. Now, granted, the weather has been conducive to good natural browse growth this year, but the only other thing I can attribute the bigger antlers and healthier looking deer to is the mineral package that comes with antler max. We are seeing more tine length, more points, and above all else....more MASS.
