We used to setup a couple heat lamps in the garage to keep our dogs warm on very cold nights. If you are going away, this might not be a very good option.

I will agree on the short hair vs. dogs with a good coat. We used to have a rattier and he would outright get cold. Also had a Golden Retreiver; he would sometimes sleep outside in the rain and icicles would form in his hair. This is when the heat lamps were on in the garage. He could have cared less.

I used to really fret about this with my Gsp. I'd scramble at the 1st cold snap & break out the heat lamps/ bedding etc. I got tired of my GSP pulling the bedding out only for it to get covered in ice & snow & finding her laying outside her house bc apparently the heat lamp was too much.

Now they just have 2 uninsulated barrels out of the wind & precip & they seem fine

Any kind of dog house or carrier that provides a break from the wind and run a single light bulb inside. Maybe some straw hay...heat lamps are too much IMO.
