CHL. I'm taking the class in Tyler! Got questions.

I am taking the CHL class here in Tyler at the Tyler Gun Club on January 27. I was told that I will need a 10 shot capacity automatic to take the class test effectively. I have a Ruger P90 in .45 and it only holds 7 rounds.

For those who have taken the class, did you need 10 rounds at a sitting? Also, anyone got a 9mm they want to lend me for a week? I'll buy you some extra ammo for it!

Anyone in the Tyler area want to take the class with me?

You will not need to hold ten rounds....many shots are singles and some are three....seems like if the instructor wants you to be able to hold ten rounds he/she is trying to get through quickly.....

A person is able to take the course with a wheel gun which will hold six. The most shots that I have ever taken at one time is six. I see no reason for you having to have a larger capacity weapon.

The most you fire at one time is I believe 5. If you needed 10, how would anyone ever take it with a revolver? Most strings are 1,2, or 3 shots. With reloads in between. It is 50 rds. total.

7 rounds is fine. I renewed a couple of months ago and I can only remember firing 5 shots at a time during the skills portion.

Thanks guys, that makes me feel better. I'd like to use the Ruger as I shoot well with it.

I plan to carry a 5-shot Taurus snub-nose, but I want to qualify with an auto in case I change my mind later.

I've taken it twice--originally and renew. Five rounds are the most used at any one time. You will be fine.

I used my 1911 with 8rd mags. No problems.

Your P90 will work fine, take 2 mags with you and shoot hardball if the gun has any feed issues at all with hollowpoints. I can't remember the specific course of fire, but I think there are some mag changes. It would be best to contact the instructor and clarify that. Pace yourself and don't rush your shots as there is plenty of time in each exposure, even the quicker ones. I used a single-stack 1911 last time, a Glock 17 the time before that.
