    The art of scrapes

Just found a good scrape line on public land. There are like four or so about 40 to 50 yards apart they were fresh, the ground still wet.

So how do you go about hunting the area.

Other then p-ing on them what else is there to know?

Let's hear some TBH knowledge about scrapes.

Just set up 30 yards down wind and wait. You could hang some scent in the area. Best chance is now before scrapes are no good to them anymore

Are the scrapes only good during the rut?

I read an article on three different studies on scrapes that confirmed that bucks visited them ~90%+ of the time at night. A buck also returned to his scrape only about 20% of the time.

So hunting them was probably not worth the effort was the conclusion. I've seen bucks make fresh scrapes while hunting but never seen another buck visit them during daylight.

What I have found about scrapes....
A buck will make one but many bucks use them and refresh them
Hunt down wind and stay away from the scraps, (don't pee in them or walk thru them, i.e. don't leave any scent)
Bucks will visit the scrapes any time and you are more likely to see multiple bucks using them
When you find a scrap line......hunt the scrapes

Why not pee in them etc. and would you make a mock scrape if you did not have any that you see close to your set-up?
