The Rut Report....

Just wondering if anybody is seeing the rut starting. I hunt south texas and we usually see the rut happening around the 2nd or 3rd week of december.

Not south texas but in Fisher county , I am starting to see some of the better bucks moving this past week. I have personally seen 4 new bucks not seen before this past week. I am hoping to see some of the bucks I passed last year. Young bucks are starting to harrass the does and are starting to spar some. I believe our rut will be in full swing Thanksgiving weekend. Season is starting to get exciting arouond here!

signs of the pre-rut here in North Central Texas (Young/Throckmorton Cnty)

1-2 weeks and they should be going pretty hot n heavy

Sat the last three days in Dripping Springs - Rattled in two different young guns (came charging in) this morning and they started going at it. Was tons of fun, despite big daddy not walking out. I'm fairly confident the rut has begun here.

I would imagine the majority of the state has bucks seeking (not to be confused with chasing, there is a huge difference). I've seen a couple of bucks with noses to the ground on a mission here in Rusk Co, but does' aren't hot yet. Seen too many does' with no harassment. I'd say Thanksgiving week should be prime.

Tons of scrape activity but the bucks are still tolerating each other, for the most part, here in Sabinal. Looking like we'll start roughly on time- 1st week of December. Maybe a little early if we get some cold wet weather after Thanksgiving. Always seems like cold weather with some moisture triggers it here.
